Copernicus founder Dr. Arne Richter deceased on 2 August 2015
It is with great sadness that we say farewell to our founder, former managing director, and friend Dr. Arne Richter.
Arne co-founded the Copernicus Society in 1988 as well as Copernicus GmbH in 2001. With dedication, Arne served wholeheartedly as managing director of the company until 2007; through his vision and irrepressible strength, he made Copernicus Meetings and Copernicus Publications what it is today. He paved the way for open-access publishing and Interactive Public Peer Review because he believed in those behind the concept and their desires. Success continuously proved him right. His will for social justice culminated in the founding of the Copernicus Foundation. Particularly, the promotion of children and young scientists was an issue very close to his heart. With his kindness, he made many people happy. Arne could be loud and short-tempered, but – above all – he was a captivating, boisterous, and good-natured person. We will remember his humaneness, his sense of humour, his crazy ideas, and the anarchic way in which he fought for what he believed in. He unfortunately lost the struggle against his illness, but his spirit will live on. Arne, take care, mach es gut, farvel og tak!
