New collaboration between the International Association of Hydrological Sciences and Copernicus.org

The International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and Copernicus.org are pleased to announce their new collaboration: henceforth, the IAHS Red Books series will be published as an online open access journal by Copernicus Publications, and Copernicus Meetings will assist the association with organizing its future conferences.

In the Red Book series, proceedings of IAHS conferences have been published since 1924. The new proceedings journal, Proceedings of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (PIAHS), is published by Copernicus Publications on behalf of IAHS. PIAHS Editor-in-Chief is Christophe Cudennec, the IAHS Secretary General.

The IAHS has decided to move from a printed subscription series to an open access journal to make the findings of its authors freely available to view and download, and therefore more visible to a worldwide audience.

Hubert Savenije, President of the IAHS, explains that “Publishing our Red Books open access will give our members and conference participants more exposure and access to the international hydrological community. As President of IAHS, I am very pleased with the agreement that we signed with Copernicus, which marks the beginning of a new open access publication policy of IAHS.”

Print copies of PIAHS volumes will still be available to order. As with all journals published by Copernicus, metadata for each PIAHS paper are available to indexing organisations worldwide and digital citations of the papers are recorded. PIAHS starts with Publication 364, the proceedings of this year’s conference by the International Commission on Water Resources Systems (ICWRS2014).

Being a very experienced conference organizer, Copernicus Meetings will also assist the IAHS with upcoming conferences by managing the registration, helping with abstract submissions and setting up of the conference programmes.

“This new collaboration with IAHS provides us with the opportunity to serve this lively scientific community with our wide array of services in the best way possible,” says Martin Rasmussen, Managing Director of Copernicus.org. “We are proud that we can assist IAHS in the work they do for their scientists.”

Hubert Savenije adds that “Through our cooperation with Copernicus, not only will the open access publications of our Red Books be more visible and accessible, but the organization of our conferences will also become more uniform, more efficient and professional. We look forward to a very fruitful and lasting cooperation with Copernicus.”
